Overseas Filipino Workers Articles and Useful Tips
The unstable economic and political situation in the Philippines
is one of the major causes why most educated and highly skilled Filipinos
prefer to work abroad. Filipino workers could not see any hope from
their leaders to achieve prosperity for the country...Most of our
leaders in the Philippines are not serious in dealing with the country's
economic development and growth. They are spending more time on arguments,
debates and opposing each other's proposed ideas and projects rather
than taking action on the current problems of the country.
Working abroad does not always give full beneficial returns for each
of the Overseas Filipino Workers. Some may be very lucky to have a
very kind employer but some may not. Some can get the perfect job
that they really wanted, others cannot. Some gets high paying jobs,
some do not. Some Overseas Filipino Workers have the opportunity to
bring their families with them but some do not.
There are many Overseas Filipino Workers who work abroad for many
years but are not successful and no investments were acquired by the
time that they have already retired. The worst situation is that there
are some OFWs who have been in an accident overseas which prevented
them from working again. Regardless of working in or outside the Philippines,
Filipino worker should know how to value his labor and sacrifices
while aiming for his dreams.
Don't include important papers and valuable properties in your baggage.
Always have it in your hand carried luggage. There are many cases
that your baggage will be left behind, so if you have important documents
in that baggage, it is also possible that you can’t retrieve
it anymore.
Abolish "inggitan and siraan blues". Don't waste your time
bringing down other successful person, if you want to achieve success
like he has, work hard for it without bringing troubles to yourself
and others,
Why millions of Filipinos leaving the country? The first reason is
not mainly because of lack of Jobs, it's because they have bigger
and better dreams for themselves and most especially for their family.
They can get a job in Philippines why not, the country is a rich nation
when it comes to Agriculture and Fisheries. They can be farmer, fisherman,
sales ladies, nurses, store owners and others?
But their income from that job is not enough to sustain their family.
The farmer in America is more than ten times richer than farmers in
our country, the garbage collector in America is also more than 10
times richer than our own garbage collector. It's better to be a Nurse
in the US, than being a Doctor in Philippines...they said.
Many Filipinos have migrated to other countries such as Canada, the
United States of America, Australia, New Zealand and others. Many
of us would like to follow and, given any chance just to be there,
grab the opportunity to do so. However, many Filipinos do not wish
to leave as well. Why? Because their qualifications and experience
are sometimes not recognized abroad. You may be an engineer in the
Philippines but abroad you’d just be a cable man, a warehouse
man or a laborer. You may still be in a construction or building environment,
but your job is not what you wished for.
The young man kept on talking and distracting me. He said, "No,
they don't have application forms anymore. If you want, you can buy
the form from the stalls over there like what I did", He was
pointing to small shops installed just outside the DFA walls. I said,
“No, I'm not going there because they are crooks, and I’ll
ask the guard first whether or not you're telling me the truth!”
At that moment, I knew he was one of the crooks. That's why although
they were blocking my way, I did not listen to them and walked straight
to the guard. And when I indeed asked the guard, he replied, "Yes,
the DFA is still open!"
Do not deal with training centers and travel agency who promise
overseas employment.
Some can really help you but most of them don't. Some Immigration
consultants is one of them. They can also help you but you shouldn't
trust all of them. Actually, they're just guiding you and inform you
on how to migrate and to inform you about the present economy of the
country that you're planning to migrate. The best thing that you should
do is to visit the foreign country's immigration site. From there,
you'll know everything about their policy and if your profession is
in-demand to that country.
Recruiting and charging or accepting fees without proper license
or authority to recruit.
The very first thing that causes an OFW not to save enough from his
overseas work earnings is due to the exorbitant placement fees and
other unnecessary fees that he has to pay prior to his departure for
work abroad. Recruitment agencies, licensed or unlicensed, take advantage
of poor job applicants who want to work overseas. Many people in the
recruitment business thinks that every OFW could earn thousands of
dollars abroad. Although these agents know for sure that the applicant
usually will receive only the minimum salary, unjust placement fees
and other unnecessary expenses are still collected from them. Only
a few recruitment agencies are really dedicated to assist their applicants.
gems/jewellery, cutflowers, turismo, etc.)
bagahe.
